Bologna Place Improvement Project

The Bologna place needs riparian protections for steelhead, juniper control for upland improvements and spring development for livestock and wildlife watering. Project could include beaver introduction, juniper brush fencing, juniper control for watershed improvement. Brush piling for upland game birds and bitterbrush planting for improved big game habitat.

This project will draw from a variety of resources and data to forge a consensus on habitat conservation strategies for the 2,300-acre Howard Buford Recreation Area (HBRA, aka Buford Park), managed by Lane County Parks Division. We will draft a park-wide Habitat Management Plan that identifies conservation targets, conservation strategies and high priority habitat enhancement projects at HBRA, the largest public ownership within OCS Conservation Opportunity Area: WV-03a Mt. Pisgah Area.
Pony Creek Habitat Restoration

The Cape Arago Audubon Society (CAAS) has initiated invasive species removal and native species planting to restore habitat at North Bend School District property that was previously the site of a wetland mitigation project under DSL. The mitigation efforts started ~1996 were abandoned and weeds had taken over. This is estuarine wetland habitat in the urban area of North Bend. As work progresses CAAS plans to expand our restoration efforts to other properties along Pony Creek.
North Spit Shorebird Sanctuary

The Cape Arago Audubon Society (CAAS) is proposing to create a habitat management plan and ensure public access to ~270 acres of early seral freshwater wetland habitat on the North Spit of the Coos Estuary. This property provides unique and valuable habitat for migratory shorebirds, wintering waterfowl, and other coastal wildlife.The property is currently owned by Weyerhaeuser and is tied up in escrow with the Port of Coos Bay as part of a proposed liquified natural gas plant development. The property itself however, is not part of the LNG development.
